The 2013-14 OAA season wrapped up on a high note with a very well executed Provincial Championship yesterday. There were plenty of great performances. I’m not going to start listing them, but it’s clear to me that Ontario has more armwrestling talent than any other state or province!
We were very fortunate to have Scott MacInnis attend the event to film everything for Arm Sport Videos. Stay tuned for updates regarding when all of the action will be online.
The Ontario Provincial Title Count list will soon be updated, but I want to recognize those who have earned their first Provincial titles in the masters and/or open divisions:
Colton Neely
Doug Weir
Brian Desormeaux
Jake Charles
Tyler Robinson
Evan Bourgoin
Heidi Cordner
Take note of these names. I have a feeling you’ll be hearing them a lot in the future.
Congratulations to Phil Stoppert and Tamara Mitts for their induction to the Ontario Armwrestling Hall of Fame! Both of you are very deserving.
The following pullers won annual awards:
Promoter of the Year – Joe Gould
Rookie of the Year – Candy McIlmoyle
Most Improved Puller – Heidi Cordner
Murray Park Sportsmanship – Tony Brooks
Ironman – Heidi Cordner, Tammy Schell, and Kyle Kerswill
Male Puller of the Year – Joel Goodsell
Female Puller of the Year – Heidi Cordner
Joe Gould will host the Provincials in 2015 in either Belleville or Kingston. The exact date is to be determined, but they will likely be held in October. This will be a non-qualifying event for the 2016 Nationals, however all standard OAA annual awards will be given and OAA memberships for the 2015-16 season will be sold at reduced rate. The 2016 Provincials, which will serve as the qualifying event for the 2016 Nationals, will be held in early May.
On behalf of the entire OAA Excecutive—Joe Gould, Dave Campbell, Guy Windover, and Joel Goodsell—good luck to all in the next year!
