Before I started armwrestling I was more into powerlifting and strongman stuff, and I was trying to put the weight on. I've got to admit, I tried going from 1 g/lb up to 1.5+ for a while and saw absolutely no difference. These days it's more like .8 or .9, and i think I'd be okay to go lower. This trend upward with protein intake is just part of the more-is-better approach that pervades body-building. The reason that competition-ready body-builders are a solid 40-50 lbs heavier now than 30 years ago is not because there has been major breakthroughs in nutrition or training (there hasn't), it's because they're taking 10x the amount of chemicals... It's a combination of things man. Training + diet + suplementation + sleep. I went from 180 lbs to 235 lbs in one year by changing my diet. By increasing the amount of protein I consumed. It works.

No, I don't know the specifics. One article I read a number of years ago said, literally, 10 times as much, so that's a number that stuck out in my memory... Do you disagree that 30 years ago bodybuilders took a small fraction of the steroids they do now?

I agree with you 100% However, 30 yrs ago, bodybuilders knew 10% of what they know now in terms of nutrition.

I agree with you Bilal but I would have to add that BB today know more about there cycles and post cycle therapy. I"m not sure if they did a small amount 30 years ago but you have to understand at that time most would go by what the local gym rat would say and if he is selling the stuff chances are he would like you to do more so he could make more money.

Kidney issues and high protein is blown way out of proportion. Chris, if you were that size on .75 grams you know you have to be making up for that with carbs and fats. If you want to stay lean (or get leaner)and put on serious muscle, .75 grams won't do it!!!!!!!! Maybe with some steroids or in your teens, but no way possible naturally and stay lean. If you were bigger at one time, cell memory will help as well. 1.5-2 grams per lb, but cycle it, and water, water, water. If you are where you want to be .75 is a good number for maintenance.

I would also like to mention what Bilal said about the pain meds. Nobody commented on this, bang on!!!!. Oh wait, I can think of all sorts of people that have kidney issues and gout from over consumption of protein.................oh wait,... no I can't!! Who over consumes protein anyway? That it warranted a bunch of studies no less?? How many studies??and why?? I have read some myself and wondered. Practical vs theoretical. If you want to pick on a macro nutrient, lets pick on carbs. Over consumption of it is killing people by the minute. It comes in some nasty forms along with fats. Pain meds also kill people everyday, but they hide that because of massive financial gain. (And I know a shitload of people that take them daily) Sorry to jump around like a 3 legged rabbit but protein is your friend. So Jay, what is your BF% @198lbs? You could get to 6-8% shed fat, gain muscle the rest of your gains come from connective tissue.(which is also protein) Chris, I am the first to admit your are awesome, but try to get to 198lbs and keep your current bodyfat levels the same with .75-1 gram and no juice.
