I know there will be many pullers competing at their first Nationals this year in Ottawa. I wanted to share bits of information that maybe not everyone has.
At Nationals, you can pull only one weight class. This class can be the one in which you fall when you weigh in, or one class above. For example, if you weigh 195 lbs, you can either pull in the 198 lb class or the 220 lb class.
The starting match-ups will be randomly selected by a computer program. HOWEVER, for the first round, if at all possible, you will be matched up with a puller from a different province. This may not be possible in all cases, when more than half of the pullers in a class are from the same province. (This will quite possibly happen due to Ontario's strong representation in certain classes.)
If anyone has specific questions about Nationals, please ask away.

Are top 3 in all senior weight classes getting plaques, medals or trophies?

Impressive trophies in all classes. Even for the kids classes (though smaller).

I thought the rules were amended so that you couldn't pull different weight classes right and left?

I don't recall this being changed. I'll look into it. Do you remember where and when you heard about this? I don't remember this being discussed at CAWF AGM meetings dating back to 2007, and I know at least one puller pulled different right and left classes that year. Do you know why this would have been changed?

I thought it did come up at the AGM meeting in 2007 because someone did in fact pull 2 different classes. I believe the rules were changed at that time to prevent it in the future, but I could be completely off on that.

I remember that... Kyle pulled 187 right, 176 left. Sarty pulled 143 right, 132 left.. If I remember correctly. And I could be wrong, but i think Bruhm pulled 165 right, 154 left.

Wow! Good memory Rick. I looked through the minutes of the 2007 meeting and you're right -- apparently this was discussed. It was decided that going forward pullers would have to pull the same weight class with both their left and right arms at Nationals.
I've modified my original post in this thread.
