This year’s Provincials have the potential to be the biggest ever! With a relatively central location, awesome prizes, Joe Gould at the helm, and the Nationals in Ottawa, this will be one event that is not to miss! The current Provincials attendance record was set in 1999 in Wawa, with 159 entries. Let’s see if we can beat this record.
It may actually be harder to place at this year’s Provincials than at this year’s Nationals, because of the weight class sizes. For example, while the Provincials offer a 0-154 class, at Nationals there are 121, 132, 143, and 154 classes. I say this for encouragement – the Ontario Provincials may seem like a daunting tournament, but it will be worthwhile to attend for the chance to compete with people from around the country who are closer to your weight.
Here are my 1st place predictions:
R154 Aslan Albegov L154 Aslan Albegov R176 Crazy George L176 Shea Dickie R198 Brian Tamblyn L198 Anatoly Skodtaev R242 Eric Roussin L242 Eric Roussin R243+ Earl Wilson L243+ Earl Wilson
Women’s R143 Tamara Mitts Women’s L143 Laura Cook Women’s R143+ Janet Riehle Women’s L143+ Janet Riehle
Masters’ R176 Ivan Clement Masters’ L176 Ivan Clement Masters’ R220 Troy Eaton Masters’ L220 Craig Mitchell Masters’ R221+ Gerald Ronald Masters’ L221+ Cameron Clarke
Like the Provincials, the Nationals in Ottawa will have lots of fun and excitement – the Texas Hold’em Tournament, the Hand Strength Challenge, tons of prizes, and of course world class armwrestling. You automatically qualify to attend simply by competing in the Provincial Championships. Let’s show the rest of the country how strong armwrestling in Ontario is!
