Although the goal for 2008-2009 OAA season was to have 6 circuit sanctioned events (excluding the Provincial Championships), we will only have 5 circuit events. This is in large part because the Canadian and World Championships are being held earlier in the year than usual, and we’ve had to adjust the OAA schedule to make everything work. Two circuit events were held in the fall (the Western Championships on October 25th and the Eastern Championships on November 22nd). The three circuit events that will be held between now and the Provincial Championships are the Golden Horseshoe Championships in Brampton on January 31st, the Southern Championships on April 19th (tentative date), and the Northern Championships on May 9th. The Provincial Championships will be in Ottawa on May 30th. Central Ontario will not have a circuit event this season, but they will have what could be the biggest tournament of the year – the Mike Gould Classic on March 28th. I think many will agree that with the current scheduled events, it would be hard to find an ideal date to fit in another circuit event.
Here is the current schedule of events up until the end of the season:
Other events may be added to the schedule, although they will not be circuit events (i.e. they will not count for points).
With the absence of a sixth circuit sanctioned event, this means that the points earned at all five circuit tournaments as well as the Provincials will count for the various points races (Puller of the Year, Team of the Year, and Ontario’s Strongest Armwrestling Region).
