Not all details have been finalized yet, but I wanted to share a few details about this year's Provincial Championships.
The tournament will be held on Saturday May 30th, with a referee clinic on the 31st. The tournament will be held in the Ottawa area.
The weight classes that will be offered are
Men's Right 0-154 lbs Men's Right 155-176 lbs Men's Right 177-198 lbs Men's Right 199-242 lbs Men's Right 243+ lbs Men's Left 0-154 lbs Men's Left 155-176 lbs Men's Left 177-198 lbs Men's Left 199-242 lbs Men's Left 243+ lbs Women's Right 0-143 lbs Women's Right 144+ lbs Women's Left Open Men's Masters Right 0-176 lbs Men's Masters Right 177-220 lbs Men's Masters Right 221+ lbs Men's Masters Left 0-176 lbs Men's Masters Left 177-220 lbs Men's Masters Left 221+ lbs
Also, because I want to help send the strongest Team Ontario as possible to the Canadian Championships in PEI, the top 3 finishers of each class will receive a free entry to the Canadian Championships ($50 value).
Further details will be released in the months ahead, but this is just to give you a taste of what to expect.

I think it's really impressive that the top 3 in each class get paid entry at Nationals. That's really great.
And, masters classes! This is a first at an Ontario Provincials, I think. It should be pretty competitive. I think it's awesome.
Referee clinic too, a great weekend - not to be missed.
I am impressed by these details so far.

I can't help but notice that the O.A.A. now has masters classes. Will the ladies masters be required to pull provincials, or will they still get a bye? I think that they should be required to pull, just like EVERYONE else! It wouldn't be fair to give them a bye and force a lightweight woman to pull, even though neither class is offered. What is the current bye process anyway?

The current bye process is as follows:
Anyone who does not go to Provincials but wants to compete at Nationals can do so by paying $20 to renew an OAA membership, $30 to the promoter of the Provincials, and $50 to the OAA as a sort of "penalty". A shirt would also need to be purchased (if the current shirt isn't currently owned -- current price is $35). All funds must be received within one week following the Provincials.
Anyone who competes at Provincials, or helps out in an official manner (to be agreed upon with the event promoter), automatically qualifies to compete at Nationals.
