With the Provincials only about a month away, it’s time to start thinking about nominees for the following OAA annual awards:
Promoter of the Year Rookie of the Year Most Improved Puller Murray Park Memorial Sportsmanship Award
There is still one more OAA event on the calendar prior to the Provincials (the Southern Ontario’s in Woodstock on April 14th) whose results could impact the list of nominees. However, if you want to share your thoughts right now about who you think is deserving of these awards, please do so.
Based on feedback collected over the next month, a ballot will be created which will include the top 4-5 nominees for each award. All OAA members in attendance at the Provincial Championships in Barrie on May 5th will be then cast their votes to determine the award recipients.
So, who is deserving?

I would like to nominate Guy Windover for most improved...he's improved a lot the last year...and his comeback hook match against Dave in the masters at the MGC proves it. He's becoming more versatile and someone to look up to.
Rookie - since Tyler Robinson won the last one, Jake should def. win this one...this kid is very strong and he beat me in a d**n hook!!! straight up, he's just awesome.

I don't think Jake can be eligible for that. He was in the running for rookie last year. JMO

Generally the Rookie of the Year award is given to a puller with a relatively short amount of time in the sport. There's no set time requirement. For example, I would still consider Dan Kadlec for the award. His first event was in January 2011.

In my opinion there are a lot of potential nominees for the Most Improved Puller award. These are some of the people I think would be worthy recipients:
Jake Charles Jay Riehle Tyler Robinson Conrad Rousselle Guy Windover

No one (over the last 12 months) has made the improvement Jay R has. As for the women.. Ashley M. - Despite breaking her arm 12 months ago, she not only recovered but IMPROVED! These are not my opinions.. These are facts.

Ahhh shucks!!!!! Thx for the noms guys. I appreciate it. Just making the list means a lot to me. Hoping to make a big splash @ Southerns. Was gunning for 176 but sitting steady @ 185. Losing more fat but gaining a strong core thx to George's traing advice. Not even going to try to cut feel great and besides I love being the Underdawg lol. Being considered an actual armwrestler is all I wanted this year. Planning on making this "Most Improved" list for years to come. My picks:
Most Improved Joel undoubtedly Tyler Robinson Ashley Jake Charles Tyler Cook (I believe he gets overlooked, serious improvement everytime I see him) John Milne (Honestly has moved from Pro to Elite this year)
Rookie:
Cook brothers (they can fight it out) Tom Smith Ashley
Promoter:
Got to go with Joe hands down. Thanks for all you do. Not only your tourney's but taking the time to reach out to the more inexperienced pullers with advice and inspiration. A true gentleman and friend.
Feels great to be a part of the O.A.A. family!!!!

Promoter - Mark Zalepa or Joe Gould. Both have provided quality armwrestling at its best!!
Rookie - I have to go with my homeboy Dan Kadlec. 1st year in the sport and takes a National title and wins the 242 Round Robin? I cant think of a top for that.
Most Improved - I can think of a few.
The Cooke brothers - although at this time I think Evan is the stronger, I dont think Bradford is far behind. Tendons are the only thing seperating these two.
Jay R has improved this year with his new weight and tenacity.
But again I have to go with my homeboy, The Douchebag Kid, Jake Charles. Every tournament I go to he seems to be the talk of the other teams. Richard Lupkes was even talking to me about him. Jumped into the 220 ams and was one win away from taking first place both arms? He can hit and hang in for the long haul.
Murray Park - Again with the Cooke bros. I have not met a nicer pair of people. On and off the table. Great addition to our circuit!

Rookie Dan Kadlec (What old man above said) Most Improved, lot of awesome candidates Wow! BUT one stand out.... Jay Riehle. Despite his coaches being on glue(and other things). His mindset has changed and you can see this reflected in his performance, his body and his attitude....top that Promoter Joe and Mark, seems to a tough choice the past few years between these two? ? Edge to Joe. Murray Park Cooke Bros (What old man above said)..
