My hats off to Mark Z for sticking In this long, I have been attending his tourney since '03, and the last 5-6 yrs this tourney has deminished immensely, when I think Woodstock is pretty central place IMO , why does this man not get support?? Every tourny he puts on has all the same faces? How long can 1 man be stompt on? I will tell ya's this was one of the major reasons I did not take on the northerns, if some aren't willin to travel an hr or 2 , they will for sure won't travel a few extra hours to come to timmins. So why take the risk,? And pay the $300 , to have no support. Just want to hear some opinions on this.

oaa1.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1543&page=1Started this discussion here but was basically told there was no problem. So I guess there isn't. I dropped it. Just wanted to get some discussion going. Still dont know why after all these years we do not have 300+ entries at the larger events and 150+ at some smaller events? Oh and thanks Mark for a wonderful time. Was an honor to watch Mike and Tim battle it out. Two of the nicest people and that was alot of horsepower. Mark always goes so far to give to the pullers. I always enjoy his events.

Approximately how many entries were there at this event? Unfortunately, this year's Southern Ontario's wasn't lucky with where it fell in the schedule. Two weeks after the MGC and three weeks before Provincials. Ouch. Not everyone can attend tournaments in close succession, and the MGC and Provincials are the biggest tournaments held in the province.
I wonder how much a circuit tournament position in the schedule affects turnout? The Southern Ontario's is the 5th circuit of the season. By the time it rolls around, the Puller of the Year and Team of the Year races are down to a few contenders. This may explain in part why there was a good turnout from Team Almighty and the Buckhorn Arms -- they are the ones who have a chance of winning the races. Maybe if the order of events was switched up every year, it would be more fair? So if the Southerns were held earlier in the season? I'm not sure the effect on attendance would be significant, but I'm wondering what others think.
It's harder for tournaments that aren't as centrally located (say between Toronto and Belleville) to attract as many pullers. The Eastern Ontario's in Kingston sometimes benefits from Quebec pullers making the trip. This past event unfortunately didn't attract pullers from out of the province and had only 57 entries. Unfortunately, the Southern Ontario's don't usually benefit from Americans from either Michigan or Western New York, and entries are also on the lower side. I agree it is a shame, especially because I know how much Mark personally invests in his events.

so the answer is sanstioned events need to be fewer as there are too many events , too close together,i was not healed from mgc ,but pulled 2 classes on sat. to help out mark, killing my chances of winning the 54's,not complaining, but just saying. I now need to evaluate if the provincals matter, they will only be a replay of mgc and the southern's. cost of going to the nationals is out of the question, and i think al's new walkerton event deserves support . I also herd the same excuses for non attendance to the murray park last fall,we are taking a huge steps backwards, not enough pullers, not enough sponcers, too much cost
