Well, ive worked pretty hard labor all my life. Definately some injuries, all ways keeps you lean if you are not an endomorph. Working 6 days a week, 10 plus hous a day all year isnt for me. I think the trick is to get a good, heavy seasonal job, go hard an give yourself time to recover and train. Iv got it down real good, oly work 6 months of the year on a farm afew km down the road, im half RETIRED. hahaha, but honestly i hate working for someone and money in general.

In my opinion, depending on the type of labour you are participating in on a regular basis, I believe that it can provide different advantages for AW. I am a glazier by trade( installing windows and commercial doors) and the grip strength that I have gotten and forearm strength helps me immensely. I have never worked out in a gym nor have I ever trained for AW( unless you count going out once to see Rick H) I believe I fair pretty well with no experience at all. Different guys in my industry need to use the provided suction cups to install where I can just grip the side of the glass and throw it in. I think I could be a very good AW if I trained as I have wins against guys that train all the time

A person with years of experience in manual labour, if train hard specifically for aw[ for a period of time], will produce better result than a person working in other fields imo. ofcourse as John Milne emphasis, injuries and healing time will be a concern . In my opinion most important question to answer is how smarter one can become in translating the gains during manual labour to gains in armwrestling strength. Dixon

In reality I may workout in gym for 2hrs upto 6days a week. But I am not at all sure whether I can withstand a manual lobour of 8hours a day I know it is not an easy world.

This would be impossible with any kind of difficult working day. Throw that armwrestling specific training out the window... but of course you'll be strong from the non specific labouring you're getting from work

.. We will have you primed for Doug Allan in sept Vegas ARMWARS event!! That poor fool is probably structuring/regulating his dynamic weight room sessions in order to keep joints fresh for intense table time. LMAO!! I d bet he doesn't even OWN a sledge hammer!! I can't beleive he ever won a match!!

I think we are getting off the point here a little between the point of views on this subject. If you have a job like Al or Travis, or John, it WOULD make you a stronger armwrestler...if you don't train as well. If your job is substituting or preventing specific training then it is no contest. If Al, you were not playing with pig testicles all day, you would spend that corresponding time doing armwrestling specific training(or planting grass) and your results would be better at the table guaranteed. Same goes for weightlifting. Nothing like heavy bench pressing to F%$k up your rotator cuffs or front delts preventing a good solid lock on the table!!!!!!!!

"I do physical labour, and I can beat Joey T-Shirt at an amateur event!!". With all other things being equal.. Yes, labour guy beats lethargic office guy/or average gym guy (not training 4 aw). So if the question is "how to excel as a mid level amateur aw'er.. Sure labouring can have certain carry-over.
However when discussing training philosophy, nutrition, technique etc.. We should be talking about this in conjunction with the ideal of becoming the best we can be and fulfilling an induviduals genetic potential.
Sure there are SOME decent aw ers that labour. But If u asked the 50 BEST AW ERS ON THE PLANET if they would like a 40hr/week labour job they would emphatically say NO... The training environment for any elite athlete needs to be "controlled" it needs to be "specific". And labouring does not offer this.

I think you guys are missing the point here. Fact of the matter is, I'm broke, I need the money. So I can whine about it or try to consider this as training and enjoy it because it is getting me stronger...I think the whole mental aspect is important...but I still do feel it translates to the table. I also agree that there is a huge risk of injury...
