A strong contingent of Quebec pullers will be in Brockville this Saturday. I don't want it to be easy for them to win the classes, so I'm looking forward to seeing many Ontarians come to battle.
The trophies I'm giving out at this year's event are way bigger than the ones ever given out before.
Plus, don't forget about the grip contest following the armwrestling. Free to enter, and cash prizes. Hopefully someone will be there to challenge me.

Eric, the weather for Friday into Saturday looks bad (60 mm of rain). Does the festival close down if so?

Event will go on rain or shine. The competition will be under tent cover, but it would be a good idea to wear rain gear.
We're still a few days away, hopefully the weather will change.

Also I think I have a tent I can bring. It's an open tent with screen sidings that I will try to leave open. As long as the breeze can go through and keep us dry.

Although it doesn't look like tomorrow will be a beautiful day in Brockville, the forecast for the afternoon has significantly improved.
Come on out and enjoy the great food and fun!

Not a drop of rain all day! Threats of rain and competing events cut into attendance, but a good time was had by all. Lots of ribs - and trophies! Team Metahook won about a dozen trophies - Chris Gobby with 2 firsts and a second. Match of the day and maybe the longest one was between two 5 (or 6) year olds - Eric's son, and David Sevigny's son. It even went into the straps! Video (of part of the match) is on Eric's Facebook page.

The competition was fun, but the turnout was low (for the open division). The kids and locals division were successful as usual, but the open division classes only had three or four competitors per class. I felt bad for some of the Quebec competitors who made the trip only to end up in classes without Ontario pullers. I think a number of factors contributed to the low turnout (busy armwrestling schedule, expected poor weather, lack of specific draws (e.g. supermatches)). I'm left in a position wondering what to do about this event going forward. I'm pretty sure I'll be back next year to run an event for kids and locals, but I'm not sure what I'll do for the open class.
I want to thank all of my teammates who helped run this year's event -- John, Jerry, Jeff. Devon was ready to ref and would have been there if I didn't have a back-up (some family plans cropped up), but luckily Phil Sadler offered to help and did a great job.
I was happy to see how well new High Hooker Chris Laflair did in his first event. Learning technique over the past few months definitely paid off. And I think his 10 year old son Luc may be a good challenge for Griptonite.
I was also happy to meet Marc Turgeon from Quebec. I expect he will do well in armwrestling in the coming years if he sticks with it. He also gave me sweat a bit in some of the grip events.
Thank you to all who came out, and an especially big thank you to all of my Quebec friends who made the trip. Without your presence, there wouldn't have been much of a tournament.
