Rick Banchard held a small tournament in Clarence Creek yesterday, as part of Winter Carnival festivities. The turnout was small, but there were a couple of surprises:
Keith Steffensen now weighs 154! He's had to lay off heavy lifting for several months due to doctor's orders, so he's been doing a lot of cardio. It will be interesting to see how he does in this class if he continues to stay there.
Cory Fulham was in attendance. Cory briefly trained with the High Hookers back around 2006, hopefully he gets back into the sport.
I was there primarily for the kids event (my three boys competed) and I couldn't stick around to watch all of the open tournament, so I don't know the final results. However, from what I saw, Alain Piette was doing very well.

I (and other Montreal pullers) might have come - if we had had more advance notice.

You should let Rick know directly. He's not on the message board much.

fun tournament, ya I dropped a ton of weight over the last 6 to 8 months, I feel real good even quicker at the go. 154 feels right for me. Be warned, I am gunning for the likes of the Joel Goodsell , Dan Bellefeuille and Chris Gobby Doctor orders aside least I am am not over training.

Oh, I should add, I won the right 154 class, I think it was my first 1st place finish. Left was only 176+ which I did not entertain since I would give way too much weight and the left elbow is still tender from last years pop at the Gloucester fair. Been 1/2 century old I need to ease it back into service.

Re: Rick's event(s): if we're not in the Ottawa area, we don't hear about any upcoming Ottawa-area events unless they are posted here. The turnouts WILL be small if the events aren't announced to the masses at least a month or so ahead of time.

Agreed. He does usually do an email blast, which I presume is how most of the people who attended the event heard about it (but usually not one month or more prior to the event). Looking at his distribution list, I only saw names of people who live in eastern Ontario, so it's possible he's not trying to draw pullers from too far away (maybe to give local amateurs more of a chance to do well). I'm not sure, but you should speak to him if you're interested. He'll be at the grip contest/armwrestling practice at my place this coming Saturday.
