The Provincial Championships are just two months away. I'm looking forward to a great day of armwrestling.
During the OAA Annual General meeting, which will take place just prior to the start of the competition on May 4th, elections will be held for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Referee-in-Chief. Elections will be for a two-year term. I encourage anyone with a passion and interest to grow the sport to strongly consider running for one of these positions. As a member of the Executive, you will have a vote in all OAA decisions. The only position among these that has any formal requirements is the Referee-in-Chief, who must be a CAWF Master-level referee.
While I have enjoyed my six years as head of the Association, I think some new blood in the Executive can be a good thing. New members can hopefully bring with them motivation and new ideas to keep the sport moving forward.
If anyone has any specific questions about what being a member of the Executive entails, please contact me. The short answer is that your involvement is what you make of it.
Does anyone want to voice their interest in being considered for a position, or to nominate someone they think would be a good choice?

I'd like to say Eric that you were an excellent president for Ontario. It's too bad that you're stepping down, you really did an amazing job. It will be interesting to see who the new prez is and how he runs the ship.

I haven't decided if I will be running again or not. Right now I'm looking to see if there's anyone out there interested in joining the Executive. I'd be more comfortable stepping down if I knew someone wanted to come in. There are hundreds of people who benefit from the sport of armwrestling -- serving on the Executive is one way to give back. I'm hoping there is someone/some people out there who are willing to step up to the plate.

I nominate Eric for prez. I second that. I've heard rumors of others intending to run. Will anyone say publicly if that is their plan? It would be nice to have advance notice on such things. It could give all parties involved a chance to state their intentions and give voters a chance to digest it.

Eric should be Ontario President, Canadian President, WAF president. and any other president he could. He is an awesome leader with qualities that not many other people posess. Sincerity, professionalism, dedication, passion, and direction. Ask yourself who else has ``ALL`` these qualities in the armwrestling world. There are a few but not many! I hope you stay involved and remember people appreciate your efforts,

Thanks Mr. Roberts. I've been thinking about it a lot and talked with many different people over the past while. Though my personal situation has changed since I took on the position in 2007 (notably that I have many more kids than I did then, and that I'm currently also trying to grow Grip Sport in Canada -- both of which significantly influence my schedule) I've decided I will in fact be running again for President of the OAA. We've accomplished a lot over the past six years. For those who may not be aware, here are some of the things that have occurred during my tenure: - OAA membership growth of 90% between 2007 and 2008
- The re-establishment of a full circuit sanctioned tournament schedule
- The addition of new annual awards and the establishment of the Ontario Armwrestling Hall of Fame
- The addition of financial support for large events
- The re-establishment of the Team of the Year competition, the addition of the Ontario's Strongest Armwrestling Region race
- The addition of many puller incentives, designed to encourage participation at Provincials, Nationals, and Worlds
- The return of a competition schedule that offers more options than any other province or state
- A revamped OAA website that contains tons of information
I truly believe Ontario is the best place to be in North America if you are an armwrestler. There's a wide variety of events, held all over the province, and an incredible amount of talented pullers. I want to try to do what I can to ensure this continues to be the case.

Glad to hear your running again. It is a very short list of people who have the skill sets, to not just keep things running, but improve what's already there.

I will be running for vice president again. Looking forward to two more years of growth for the OAA. I think our current executive team is a strong one that works well together. I'm hopeful that Dave, Mike, Jason, Eric and I all get re-elected.
Eric is a great leader. The OAA is fortunate to have him as president. I agree, he should be more involved in the CAWF as well.

I was president prior to Eric's term and decided to step down when he showed interest. I am Vice President of the Canadian Armwrestling Federation and Vice president of the North American Armwrestling Federation. New blood does encourage change in the sport and opportunity for growth and that is exactly what I want to do is carry on the promotion of the sport in Ontario.

Will you make any of your proposed changes known before hand? More information to the voters is always better in my opinion, just like the voting for the awards. Am I correct in assuming you will put some more focus on youth?

With the Provincials coming up fast, I'm focusing all my attention in that direction. In just over two weeks at the provincials I will be more than willing to answer any of your questions. Joey
