As it clearly isn't ideal to have three of the biggest tournaments of the year (Mike Gould Classic, Provincials, and Nationals) within a two month period, I'm wondering what people think of making a major change to the OAA season. Rather than having Provincials in April, what do you think of the possibility of running the Provincials in the fall, perhaps in early November? The five circuit sanctioned events that count for points would be held between January and October.
If there is support for such an idea, we would need to determine if we would have two Provincial Championships this year, or just skip the Nationals qualification criteria for 2014. If we have two Provincials in 2013, then there would be fewer circuit sanctioned events. If we don't then we would likely have more than 5 circuit sanctioned events in 2013/2014 until we get back to a regular schedule for 2015.
I'm really interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on this. I don't think there's an ideal date for when Provincials could be held, but I'd like to find a date that the majority agree would be good.

Eric I have given a lot of thought to moving my event to labour day weekend. That would help a lot. It would be actualy a beter time for my self. My concern is that next year if im not mistaken the worlds are in the USA and im not sure if i would loose many competitors. Aside from that i think it would be great. Feed back please.

Hey Mike the worlds are in Lithuania next year and USA in 2015.
Until there is a change in Congress they are suppose to be last 2 weeks in September. My opinion is that Labour day is not a good time for your event.
How about August long weekend.

Oh well that would help then. I have always been a fan of labour day and that would work much better for me.

I know but I was wondering if there were any factors that kept you from having your event at certain times of the year

I am in favor of having the provincials in late november. I dont think we need 5 circuit events, 4 would be enough in a year. We have to consider the Armmelter League, thats at least 3 major tournaments a year.

If the Mike Gould Classic moves to the summer, then there probaly wouldn't be a need to move the Provincials to the fall. They could be held in late March.
I personally prefer Labour Day Weekend to the August Civic Holiday. For years people were used to attending Nationals over Labour Day Weekend.
Mike, do you think you will be making your decision soon?

Just to clarify, Its about 90% i leave the mgc where its at since its been there from the beginning I just like the financial aspect of labour day for myself. Im a construction worker with empty pockets in march.

The reason there have historically been 5 circuit sanctioned tournaments is that this is what all provinces agreed to do at one point. This way points can be earned in a consistent way across the country to identify the Male and Female Pullers of the Year. However, few provinces are currently doing this, so there may not be as much of a need for us to continue to do it. Fewer circuit tournaments would likely mean fewer puller incentives as well, though.

I am all for moving the provincials to November! Spacing out these major events is the best thing for everyone!
Mike if your going to move your tournament, I think moving it to March break would be great! This might make the tournament more accessible for even more pullers!
