It’s that time of year again: time to discuss who would be worthy recipients of the OAA annual awards: - Promoter of the Year
- Rookie of the Year
- Most Improved Puller
- Murray Park Memorial Sportsmanship Award
There is still one more OAA event on the calendar prior to the Provincials (the Southern Ontario’s in Woodstock this Saturday) whose results could impact the list of nominees. However, if you want to share your thoughts right now about who you think is deserving of these awards, please do so. Based on feedback collected over the next month, a ballot will be created which will include the top 4-5 nominees for each award. All OAA members in attendance at the Provincial Championships in Gravenhurst on May 4th will then cast their votes to determine the award recipients. Brief award descriptions as well as a historical listing of winners can be found on this page: www.ontarioarmwrestling.com/awards.htmSo, who is deserving?

I'll start:
Two people who stand out in my mind for Rookie of the Year are Alain Piette and Tom Smith.

^^^^^ Agreed Eric!!!
Most Improved Puller as I stated this year IMO is Mr. Milne himself. Have enjoyed watching him chop some interesting trees this year. Good job John!
For promoter I am going off the tracks here for a minute. I appreciate the promoters who year in and year out hold the best events in the country. They all have won this award different times and we DO appreciate all they do. I would like to nominate against the grain this time and suggest Mr MacInnis himself for the award this year. He exemplifies the description put forth, and has blessed us all with a free site in which we can visit and study and learn. Thanks Scott!!!
Murray Park - CRAIG "FRIGGN" MITCHELL thats who!!!! Hands down!!
;D ;D ;D

Excellent nominations, Guy.
You make a great point about the Promoter of the Year award. Nominations do not need to be limited to people who run events, but open to anyone who does a good job in promoting the sport in any manner.

I like Scott Mac but it's an Ontario Assoc. award right? I think Scott does a great job but it should go to a member imo.
That you for the props Guy. I'm always the brides maid when it comes to awards but I'm cool. I think there are a lot of greatly improved people for that award. It's nice to be recognized though, thank you.
I'll think about some nominations and post later.

I agree with Alain and Tom as front runners for the Rookie of the Year award.
Also, Christien Gould - 15 years old, 1st at the Marmora Fair - in a pro division, and won 3 divisions at the Arm Melter Movember tournament. Plus 3rd at the MGC amateurs 198.
Most Improved.
Conrad Rousselle Andrew Scott John Milne Jeff Slater Jay Riehle

Just an observation regarding most improved.
The amount of people who could be nominated for this award makes a pretty big list. To me this says that Ontario armwrestling is thriving, strong and in a great spot. I've said it before but we have it all here and we're fortunate for that. Our teams are getting bigger, stronger, better and obviously well coached. We should all give ourselves a pat on the back for that.
Some people who come to mind who haven't been mentioned yet.
Janek Tyler "Beast" Goodsell Bilal Tom Balfe
It would be nice if anyone (who felt strongly about this subject) had 1-3 solid nominations and attached a 2-3 sentence reason why they should be considered. It's impossible to know all the accomplishments of people you don't see very often. It would be easier to vote on something you're more versed on.

I agree with Mike being the leading candidate for promoter. He also put on 2? other tournaments as well I think One having the biggest match of the year "Gould vs. Wilson". I love Tyler Robinson but he won the rookie already. I don't think he should be eligible to win it twice. You make a great case for Ashley. A lot of people might have quit with a broken arm. She made podium at Arnold's this year as well. IMO this is the toughest award to decide. Nobody is going to argue against Craig Mitchell for Murray Park I'd still like to nominate Joe Gould for promoter. I know it seems like old hat but the man keeps on charging. The Arm Melter series is getting globally recognized (on ArmWars) and continues to be the only professional league in Canada. I could write a page on why I love the Arm Melter but I'll spare you all. Rookie - I'd need more information. I'm not sure who is still a rookie and who is not. So many good new guys. Improved - Heh, make 15 trophies and give em all one. MP - Craig Mithchell is a solid choice. Rob Graham is my pick though. Everyone knows him and everyone loves and respects him. He's back in the game (currently recovering from surgery) and by all accounts still at the top of it.

My bad ,your right John The Beast already won rookie of the year..and Rod would be an excellent choice for the MP..Fayez I notice Guy already won the MP award also..Mike or Joe could be a tie there.. Joey has started something special up in the Gravenhurst area promoting armwrestling for youth and adults,,(love the shirts). Rookie of the year uhmm-Janek,Shawn Jensen,I met Evan from that HOOKER team.lol he could be a choice. But again for the ROOKIE how long are you one?? 1/2/3 years..When I won it in 2005 I started in 2003. I know in other sports its usually your 1st year..But we are not talking about other sports IT"S ARMWRESTLING!!!
