The 2014 Ontario Provincial Championships were originally scheduled to take place in early November, to avoid having three of Canada’s biggest events held within a 7-week period. However, a decision was made by the newly elected Executive to move the Provincials to April 25th (four weeks after the Mike Gould Classic and three weeks prior to the Canadian National Championships).
Mike Gould, the host of the 2014 Provincials, can accommodate either date. The new Executive supports the move back to November, which would better allow competitors who are interested in attending these three events to go to them. I feel that having the Provincials in April would hurt attendance for this event.
What do Ontario pullers want? If there is no Provincial Championship prior to the 2014 Nationals, the requirement for attending Nationals would simply be participation in a single Ontario event during the 2013-14 season, as was originally voted on.
Please feel free to ask any questions.

What is the Executive going to do about the OAA Memberships fees if we do not have the Provincials before the Nats.? Or you only pay it if u go to the Nats? or not at all.. Is it $30 or $35? Is Scott going to film the Provincials now?.. I think the main reason Joey wanted to have the Provincials was to get some revenue back into the kitty with membership fees. Whats going on with the weight classes for the OAA ,any changes?

I'm currently consulting with the rest of the Exec on these issues, and should be able to provide answers soon.
Regarding weight class changes, is this something people in Ontario want? Though the classes have changed at Nationals, I don't necessarily think they need to be changed here. What does everyone think?

Just wanted to clear up a few questions and make sure there is no confusion out there. As of right now, my last tournament will be the MGC in March. So, no, I will not be attending the 2014 OAA Provincials. That being said, I'm not sure at this point if this will be a permanent move or just a long break.
Thank you all very much for your support over the years, I have enjoyed meeting & spending time with all of you.

There will definitely be some logistics that won't make sense if the Provincials are in November. Are we going back to the idea that Provincials won't qualify us for Nationals?
The weight classes in Provincials and Nationals should match shouldn't they? When will we know the outcome of the decision regarding the weight classes for Nationals or has that already been decided?
I appreciate you becoming the front man for all of these important questions, but i'm wondering what has happened to the voice of the executive? Will we be seeing the platform for the upcoming year (or are we relying on the leads to provide this information) and where can we view the information?

Craig:
The Executive has discussed, and support the following:
1. If Provincials moves to November, there would be no OAA membership fees collected before then. The OAA memberships at Provincials would be for the 2014-15 season.
2. The amount of the membership fee will be decided on at a later date, through consultations with members. The fee was raised to $35 to cover Scott's filming. With him not filming, we will either reduce the fee back to $30, or leave it at $35 if the need can be justified.
3. Though memberships make up a significant portion of the OAA's revenue, revenue is also currently generated through circuit tournaments. We will be thinking about ways to revive circuits and/or make tweaks to it to make the events appealing to both promoters and competitors.
4. There are currently no plans for changes to Ontario's circuit classes, however the subject is open to discussion.
Chantal:
Participation at Provincials will continue to be used as an automatic qualifier for the following Nationals. However, given the increased amount of time between Provincials and Nationals, we may need to come up with a separate qualification procedure for people who come into the sport after Provincials and before Nationals. This is open to discussion.
For the 2014 Nationals, the requirement for attending would simply be participation in a single Ontario event during the 2013-14 season.
The weight classes at Nationals have indeed changed, effective 2014. Is there a need for the classes at Provincials to match? I'm not sure, but am interested in hearing what everyone thinks.

Based on majority support, the 2014 Ontario Provincial Championship will be held in early November. The tentative date is November 8th.
