Based on discussions on the message board and among the OAA Executive, a decision has been made to no longer have OAA “circuit sanctioned” events. Any tournament director interested in holding an OAA sanctioned event would simply need to pay a flat fee of $50 and confirm that CAWF certified referees will be officiating the event. Other variables will be up to the tournament director’s discretion (tournament format, classes, entry fees, etc.). All sanctioned events can count towards the Puller of the Year and Team of the Year points races. A puller’s five best performances will be counted (plus Provincials). All sanctioned events will also count for the Ironman Award – the award given to the puller who attends the most OAA sanctioned events throughout the year.
Any questions, please post.

Sounds like a good idea, makes it fair throughout the province. What level of referee is CAWF ? And is there a list? Thanks!

Any level of CAWF certification is fine (minimum Level 1). Higher certification is encouraged for bigger events, and required for the Provincials. I'll try to obtain an updated list.

The OAA can't guarantee turnout at any event. By sanctioning the event, it will count for points, which is a bit of a draw for some. If a tournament director puts in the effort to make his/her event stand out, either because of prizes, classes, format, or something else, and also to promote the event online and through other means, I would hope that it would result in a good turnout. Date selection is an obvious factor. I encourage any potential promoters to contact me before selecting dates, as I may have information about other events that are in the works.
I agree that it would be nice to hear more opinions on the subject.
