Hi every one, I wish all of you will read this topic with an open mind. Myself is a Licensed specialist physician in Internal Medicine in India. I have done some research in the topic of 'performance anxiety' in our social life. In arm wrestling I have seen many players showing so much tension before the starting of a tournament. My questions : Do you think tension just before the tournaments influence badly on your performance at the table? Do you ever thought about getting rid of this issue? Are you OK with 1 or 2 cigarettes or some alcohol to calm you down or are you using somethingelse? Or are you dreaming about some magic trick to get rid of this problem? Please never think that I am about to market some new product; it is just part of the research which may help to come up with something useful. 1. Please share your little secrets of conquering your anxiety before big matches (question to those who experience it only, irrespective of winners or losers) 2. Please tell me are you free of any anxiety before the big matches (question to all first place winners only). Sincerely, Dixon

I love the nervousness before a match. I try to use it. I would not try to get rid of any of it. It's what sport is all about and makes you feel alive.

I dont mind some nerves, but I find I perform better when I dont put pressure on myself. I have alot more fun as well when I dont care!

Anxiety in competition is as healthy as breathing. It's your mind recognizing urgency. The days I don't have it, I do worse. Would you prefer to walk into a 1968 viet nam jungle docile like a Hindu cow or nervous, anxious and alert like a mother F? Anxiety encourages a secretion of adrenaline. Embrace this sh*t.
For the record, I ve tryed alcohol, weed and even rubbed one out into the trunk of my car. No dice.. I say Never go in relaxed.

For the record, I ve tryed alcohol, weed and even rubbed one out into the trunk of my car. No dice.. I thought this means you many times wished to get rid of it. Correct me if I am wrong.

Dixon, at one point I tried competing with some alcohol in my system. I did not like results and never did it again. We need some fear and anxiety to bring out are strongest self. Numbness is for the weak and cowardly.

In my academic life, my new discovery has improved my focus and efficiency. I am not at present in a level to comment on its effects on my aw performance since I have not won many titles yet. May be in future, who knows there will be a time I can say that in public with authority.
