At this year’s Provincials we will be inducting the initial members of the newly established Ontario Armwrestling Hall of Fame which will recognize the significant achievements and/or contributions of dedicated individuals. The Hall of Fame will be similar to the Canadian Armwrestling Hall of Fame, in that it will be online, hosted on the OAA website. Although the members of the OAA Executive are in agreement that the Hall of Fame is a good idea, we are interested in soliciting feedback from the Ontario armwrestling community regarding guidelines regarding nomination and selection processes.
As was done at the national level, the initial Hall of Fame inductees will likely be selected by the members of the Executive, while a formal selection process is developed and finalized. Of course, we are looking for people’s opinions as to who would be good candidates for the Hall of Fame, so please feel free to post your suggestions, and if you’d like, mention why you think they should be in the Hall of Fame.
Regarding guidelines, we were thinking of initially inducting 3-5 members. In subsequent years, 2-3 members would be inducted.
People could be inducted for a number of reasons: because of their achievements in the sport, contributions to the sport, etc. Inductees could be competitors, promoters, referees, scorekeepers, or any combination of these.
We think there should be a minimum amount of time in the sport to be eligible. What do you think would be a good minimum? 5 years? 10 years? More?
In subsequent years, how do you think inductees should be nominated and selected?
Let’s hear your thoughts regarding the Ontario Armwrestling Hall of Fame…
