Ribfest wrapup

Brockville Ribfest is over for another year, and a good time was had by (almost) all. Thanks to Eric for handling the organization and the mike, and to the refs - John Milne, and to Guy Windover and Joe Gould who filled in at the last minute. Probably about 100 arms competed - plus about 20 kids (the three Penney kids - plus the father - all took home gold).

Congrats to Marc Vachon - who beat Will Sarty in at least one match, and also won the $1000 cash drawing. Tyler Wilkinson also produced some upsets.

My results left much to be desired - but the ribs were good!

I'm sure Eric will have a complete report soon.

Great event! The overall format was a great idea. Wish I would have been a part of it!

The $1000 draw is a really fun part of this tournament. Congrats to the thin beast!

I really do enjoy this event. Festivals have such a better feel to them than a standard "bar/restaurant" atmosphere. The weather was great, we had many spectators who watched all day long, not including the people peeking through from the beer tent. Not enough can be said about the ribs, chicken and every other food item thats available.. it was awesome.

The armwrestling was great, kids classes are so much fun to ref and watch. I think it really makes the whole event better. Mike Gould was .. well... Mike Gould. Awesome.

Team Meta Hook took home the bacon this year. Money, trophies, pride... all of it. Great job guys, you're always improving.

Thanks Mr. Windover for the good job reffing at the last minute. Joe, thanks to you as well.

This event continues to get bigger and better. I think it will continue this way as more people hear about how great the venue is. Thanks for coming out everyone.

I agree, was an exceptional day!!! Thanks Eric for throwing this together and for such a GREAT cause!! Kids classes were still my most favourite!! Wow the Penney and Brookes gang stole the show. Tony you have some great girls there with fantastic technique!!!
Meta Hook is a strong team with great cohesivness (word?). Great to see Able Jolley and guest come all the way down. All I can say is WOW Able, great hook snatch. All in all some amazing wars throughout the day and Tyler although losing in the supermatch, showed amazing stamina with some HUGE monumental wins later in the day. He pulls better angry. Congrats.
Will Sarty, for frig sakes the forearm!!! I think I have a man crush on it. You pulled great.
Stephan, I am always amazed by the bazooka you pack in that wirey body of yours. GREAT job!
Nice to see so many girls competeing as well. Some long pulls there too.
One complaint I have is trying to ref Mike and Joe with Mikes arm being closer to you. I cants see shit past that bicep!! I think Joe may have pinned him a dozen times but the view was blocked as well as the sun. Sorry Joe I think you got gyped!!!
Also a shout out to Kyle for the never say die win lefty. That was awesome to watch!
In short I HAD FUN! Its much better when not so serious I am finding again.

Thank you to everyone who made it out to this year's event to make it such a success. Great weather, great pulling, and a great setting made for an amazing day.

Will has pointed out most of the big matches that I remember. It's always fun to be surprised by unexpected results.

I want to thank Guy and Joe for stepping in to referee on no notice (Dave Campbell experienced some bad luck with his vehicle breaking down while driving to the event). Thanks John Milne for great refereeing (as always) and for originally putting me in contact with the Ribfest organizers back in 2008. Thanks to Jerry Milne for filming the event, and for all of the editing that you'll be doing in the coming days. Thank you also to Philippe Lauzon for helping me with the tournament logistics.

There were 39 entries in the kids tournament. This is always a fun event, and many kids are coming back every Summer.
