Sylvain Perron won the quintuple-elimination right-arm-only cash-prizes-only Quebec Enduro Open in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu by beating Travis Bagent - not just once, but FIVE TIMES! If I'm not mistaken - Eric Roussin came 3rd and John Milne 5th out of 48 pullers. (I came 44th). A scorekeeper's nightmare - but great work by Chris Gobby and his reliable assisstants managed to get the event underway by 1:30 and over by 7.
Highway construction added an hour to the normal 25 minutes travelling time out of Montreal, which meant a few last-minute entries and a later than scheduled start.
Entrants were listed in descending weight order, so in the first "round", #1 (the heaviest) faced #2 (second heaviest), etc. (Travis was #4; I was #47 - 2nd lightest). It was tough for someone like me, since it was an uphill battle all the way, and virtually no lightweight "amateurs" that I had much of a chance against.
Thanks to the refs, and to Armsportvideos.com who provided a live streaming video - and with cameras on each of the three tables, all matches were filmed and will be available soon.

Congrats to everyone who won...
Don't know why I had the impression that Bagent was unbeatable...he sure makes it sound that way

What a fun tournament! This was the first time such an event was attempted. I helped out with the scorekeeping and admit that even with a detailed plan, it was quite a task to keep on top of everything to ensure 1) no one received more than one bye, 2) pullers faced others pullers closest in weight and with the same loss record, and 3) two pullers didn't pull each other more than twice before the final five. Although three tables were used, we weren't able to maintain a steady flow as much as we would have liked. This being said, I think all pullers in attendance enjoyed the novelty of the event.
I want to thank Chris Gobby for spearheading such a complicated event. This was the first major event that Chris has promoted and he did a great job. All involved with the logistics of the event were great as well.
Sylvain looked and felt VERY strong. A few months of consistent training really had an effect. He was undefeated on the day.
The Ottawa High Hookers did very well taking five of the top 15 money positions: 3rd (Eric Roussin), 5th (John Milne), 6th (Allen Ford), 7th (Jeff Slater), and 13th (Nicola Gazzetto).
Alexandre Lévesque of Québec had an awesome day taking 4th place at a weight of 190 lbs. He is one of the province's top pullers under 200 lbs. I'd like to see him venture down to some Northeast tournaments to see how he'd fare (very well, I would expect).
George Sheldrick of Vermont had an awesome day. He took 9th, but in the process got some amazing wins, including one over Allen Ford (Canada's reigning 187 lb champion) and one over Denis "The Dragon" Dubreuil.
Three lightweights made the top 15: Sylvain Bissonnette (8th), Réjean Allain (14th), and Mike Roy (15th). This was very impressive considering there were close to 20 pullers who weighed more than 200 lbs.
It was a great day of pulling!

All things considered, I'm VERY happy with the outcome. I anticipated that a strong puller with questionable stamina would suffer... And that's exactly what happened! With some minor adjustments this type of format can be done again in a much more efficient way. Being finished by 7 was a goal I had, and I acheived it. I REALLY want to thank Eric for supporting me in all aspects of this event, he shouldered much of the resposability, and that allowed me to really enjoy running this event. Big thanks to the Ottawa High Hookers, and the Buckhorn Team for driving up and supporting this event!!

Sylvain is the man. Great event Mr. Gobby.
Alexandre "HERCULE" Lévesque looked strong and seemed to pack a lot of endurance as well. I look forward to pulling him again.
It was great to see everyone there.

Great great fun!!! But crap am I sore today. Def some major upsets and wins and losses, but I would do it all again. Def need more endurance as my gas tank was totally empty before my desire was. Thanks Chris, Eric, and all. Also thanks to Travis for making the trip up, the seminar was well worth the money. Thank you Michael Roy for your hospitality in your home. Great treat to see such an extraordinary gym.
