A decision was made at this year’s AGM that set Youth classes should be adopted for future Provincial Championships. There are many different opinions on how to divide these classes.
The following classes were used at the past two Provincial Championships:
Boys/Girls Mixed 0-65 lbs Boys/Girls Mixed 66-85 lbs Boys/Girls Mixed 86-115 lbs Boys/Girls Mixed 116-145 lbs Boys/Girls Mixed 146+ lbs
What does everyone think of these splits? Should these be formally adopted or are there better class combinations? (Limit yourself to a maximum of 8 categories if you suggest a combination.)
I don’t think it’s possible to get everyone to agree on the perfect combination, but the majority seemed to prefer classes that are set in advance, regardless of how they are divided.
If participation in these classes rises, there may be opportunity to add classes in the future.
We’ll be collecting feedback over the few weeks, after which the OAA Executive will make a decision.

Here's a look at the youth divisions attendance over the past two years.
total youth entries 2011 = 41 total youth entries 2012 = 29
0-65R/ 2011 = 6, 2012 = 0 0-65L/ 2011 = 6, 2012 = 0
66-85R/ 2011 = 5, 2012 = 6 66-85L/ 2011 = 4, 2012 = 6
86-115R/ 2011 = 2, 2012 = 2 86-115L/ 2011 = 3, 2012 = 2
116-145R/ 2011 = 5, 2012 = 2 116-145L/ 2011 = 3, 2012 = 2
146+R/ 2011 = 4, 2012 = 6 146+L/ 2011 = 5, 2012 = 3

It doesn't matter how the classes are divided, just that it's done ahead of time. I would also like to see set classes at the nationals.

I agree with you Rob, Nationals youth classes need to be set well ahead of time too. Hopefully the OAA's decisions can impact the CAWF.

I agree that the classes should be set, i actuly brought the topic up in an earlier post. My concern is that the heavy class is so big. It will leave alot of 190 boys armwrestling 150 lb guys. Just my thoughts.

Kids Classes 0-12 /4 weight classes
Youth Classes 13-17 /4weight classes
I feel if safety and fairness is everyones concearn than a 9/10 year old shouldn't pull boys who are transition to men. We have teens as strong or stronger than men plus add natural high levels of test and you start to understand the diffrence between KIDS & teens.

Working off Ian’s example, how about the following?
12 and under:
Mixed - 0-60 lbs Mixed - 61-85 lbs Mixed - 86-110 lbs Mixed - 111+ lbs
13+:
Boys - 0-130 lbs Boys - 131-160lbs Boys - 161+ lbs Girls – Open
I think with kids there isn’t much of a strength difference between boys and girls, but for teenagers there is.

I don't hate that idea. It's not bad at all.

An open class for all teenage girls would not be safe or fair!

The open teen girls class was only based on recent attendance (i.e. I don't think there would be enough teen girls to justify additional classes right now). However, I agree that this could be unfair. If there were two classes, what should the split be? 120 lbs? 130?

If these are left and right then I think there are too many classes. It totals 16 classes. This is what I came up with 0-75 75-100 100-135 135-180 open left and right Mixed Thanks Ashley

Does left hand really need to be offered at the Provincials for the kids classes? I think we were getting to a group of classes that is fair to most competitors. Is the hesitation of offering this many classes due to costs, or that there would be too many empty classes?
Keep the feedback coming everyone!
