I guess my questions is, which style is more effective?
Hook, top roll, triceps press, etc...
Probably depending on how good your technique is, but considering all else equal and you are equally technical is all of the above, which one would be more effective?

All moves can be effective. A lot would depend on your opponents strengths. I don't tend to press, but I will decide to attempt to either toproll or hook depending on where I believe my opponent to be weaker (wrist, bicep, etc.).
I would say, though, that the top roll is the best move in terms of minimizing wear and tear on your arm.

Yes Eric your top roll scars me but some day we will hook it up lol and as for me im an in between kind of puller i kind of do both at once but thats just me.

I was told because I'm usually stronger than people I pull with my weight, I should go for the hook...because it utilizes your strength more than the top roll. Plus I think the hook is a more natural move and easier to learn....baby steps I suppose

Generally speaking those that have a background of natural strength or b-building/weightlifting tend to instinctively hook. It brings into play Ur stronger components(lat, chest, delts, bicept). Top rollers excel in using Leverage via the smaller, more technically specific components (wrist, hand, forearm). A small % of aw's have a strong physical base with developped technical ability... And they use a "levered" hook or "high hook". This move is the most efficient, it's a controlled move that does not require hard hits, finger climbing(top rollers) or laying on bicept, driving through elbow(defensive/power hookers). It therefor Minimizes the chance of injury And has no distinct counter move. Good examples of this are Brzenk(right), Rakers(right), Bagent(left), Rustam B, and Roman T... And the ABSOLUTE PERFECT example is My boy Hugh Brodie

On the INTHEHOOK site Devon Larratt talks in great detail regardind the high hook. I beleive it's under heading "questions for the champ" or "talking with the champ". However in ur area the best man to contact would be Brian Tamblyn or Troy Eaton both excellent in this technique.
